CosmoscopeSimeon Nelson with Rob Godman and Nick Rothwell

Supported by the University of Hertfordshire.

Taking inspiration from the study of the universe, blood flowing through the human heart and the order and disorder of atoms and molecules, Cosmoscope explored the patterns, structures and similarities of these scientific areas.

Cosmoscope asked us to consider the very, very small scale and imagine the very, very large scale, to contemplate our own place in the universe and encouraged us to question how we perceive the world around us. This vast project was developed by a team of scientists and artists and led by Simeon Nelson, Professor of Sculpture at the University of Hertfordshire.

If you would like to learn more from the team behind Cosmoscope and the research that contributed towards the sculpture, further information can be seen on Simeon’s website.

We’ve also picked out some of our favourite videos that capture the essence of Cosmoscope.

Keep an eye on the Lumiere blog to learn how Cosmoscope has inspired hundreds of school children from across County Durham. If you would like to receive a Cosmoscope Resource Pack to inspire your own children or class, please get in touch with [email protected]
