Diver

Ron Haselden (UK)

LUMIERE LONDON 2018

Originally commissioned by Art Lights London, made possible thanks to Susie Allen and Jenny Christensson.

An illuminated figure appearing to plunge into the water of the King’s Cross Pond Club, 17m below, with an enormous splash.

Haselden was asked to work with children from a number of schools in the North London Borough. Drawings were made by the children to reflect the then forthcoming London 2012 Olympics. The children were asked to produce a sequence of five drawings on the subject of ‘Games’, which would then be animated as in the light-work, Diver.

Numerous actions of sporting events were drawn by them to be scaled up and presented in positions along the Regent’s Canal throughout London. Diver was first presented at Diespeker Wharf, February 2012 and Basketball is now in situ on St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington Basin.
