The Heart and Soul of the CityBloomberg Lumiere London Symposium
As part of Lumiere London, Artichoke and Bloomberg Philanthropies hosted an inspiring afternoon of talks from artists, city planners, philanthropists and cultural commentators.
Together they discussed and debated the life of the city, the public realm and how they can be transformed by events such as Lumiere London. This enlightening symposium offered an insight into the minds of some of the world’s most influential cultural and political speakers.
Chair Justine Simons OBE, Head of Culture, Mayor of London, steered discussions around the following topics:
- The politics of action in a public space: perspectives on staging disruptive acts within a world city.
- Illuminating the soul: what role does Lumiere London and events like it have in the audience’s spiritual life?
- Art and reputation: can an event or piece of work that becomes widely popular be considered art?
