Spinning Night In Living Colour sampled Van Gogh’s painting, All Night Café.

Recorded spinning like a record with a shaking video camera, the piece was transformed into a series of moving lines. The colours of the original were reinterpreted into a moving line painting, giving the appearance that light was emanating from the print in slow motion. Accompanied by an original sound score by Floor van de Velde and Elaine Buckholtz, it was based on a slowed-down version of Béla Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dance no. 3.

Elaine Buckholtz’s work combines moving light, sound, video, and sculpture. Her work has shown at galleries across Europe and America. She is also a Professor at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Spinning Night in Living Colour was part of Lumiere Derry~Londonderry 2013 and Lumiere London 2016.
