Banks Group add permanent artwork to Durham landscape

Alongside the launch of Lumiere Durham 2017, the Banks Group have added to the Durham landscape for a second time with a permanent artwork from Lumiere Durham 2015.

Lightbench by Bernd Spiecker for LBO-Lichtbankobjekte (Germany) is now installed in the new Freeman’s Quay development. It joins Tobie Langel’s witty and unusual civic clock, Helvetictoc, which is sited on the wall above the city’s Library and was the Banks Group’s first permanent Lumiere gift to the Durham community.

Grow the Rose!

We have one more installation we want to add to the programme at Lumiere Durham this year, but we need your help to build it.  Local artist Mick Stephenson has plans to build a rose window for Durham Cathedral Cloisters, although this one will be a little different, made from thousands of plastic bottles.  From as little as £2, you can add a bottle, or from £5 you can add a special ‘message in a bottle’ which Mick will add to the installation, proceeds raise will be shared between two worthy causes: My Shelter Foundation and Durham Cathedral.
