Road closures will be in place with no vehicle access to the Priory. Pedestrians who approach via Finchale Avenue should be aware that route is not lit and that they do so at their own risk. Cocken Road access is completely closed.
Shuttle bus tickets
Solitude at Finchale Priory will be inaccessible by car for the duration of the festival (18 – 21 November) and there will be a free shuttle bus system in place to visit the artwork.
Buses will be running regularly from Durham City to Finchale Priory between 16:10 – 21:20.
The time on your ticket is the time you need to board the shuttle bus.
There is limited capacity for the shuttle buses and we strongly recommend that you book your shuttle bus ticket in advance.
Buses will depart from the Park & Ride site at New College Durham (Dryburn Road DH1 5ES) in Durham City to Finchale Priory (Framwellgate Moor, Durham DH1 5SH) every 20 minutes.
Your free ticket includes the return journey back to New College Durham after visiting the artwork.
The bus journey takes approximately 10 minutes.
The last bus leaves Finchale Priory at 22:00.

About the artwork
The priory was a 12th-century outpost of DurhamCathedral, built on the site of St Godric’s hermitage and used as holiday retreat for the monks of Durham.
Kola was inspired by the story of Godric’s solitary life, and by themes of loneliness, inner strength, patience and peace.
Haunting and atmospheric, the work includes a soundscape composed by Sylvain Moreau which references Godric’s music.

Access at Finchale Priory
Finchale Priory is a partially accessible site.
Parts of the site are uneven and can become muddy. There are some stairs and narrow entrances within the site.
Wheelchair users can enter the site via the main entrance and can view the artwork from the centre of the site and turn around to leave via the main entrance.
