Trusts and Foundations

It is impossible to imagine Lumiere Durham taking place without the support we receive from trusts and foundations.

Lumiere Durham takes place in a region facing particularly tough economic times and the UK’s highest levels of unemployment. Funding from trusts and foundations helps to keep the festival free for everyone to attend and supports our learning and participation programme, which aims to inspire and engage people from the area who might not otherwise take part.

Since the first Lumiere in 2009, the programme has brought together artists, educators and other professionals with disadvantaged and under-represented groups including children and young people, older people, those with disabilities and offenders in Durham prisons. Many of these groups work with artists over days, weeks or even months to produce beautiful light installations for the festival.

With the support we receive, we can offer these communities the chance to develop lifelong skills, meet new people, break down barriers, and change how they see the places they live forever.

If you are involved with a trust or foundation and would like to find out how you could help us continue our work, please contact
