12. As Water Falls

Iregular (Canada)

Sound Designer – Xavier Tremblay

Location: Walkergate

An ever-changing digital cascade

As Water Falls is a digital waterfall that responds to human touch by Québec-based creative studio Iregular. Constantly evolving with organic patterns, no two moments are ever alike. Inspired by the power and unpredictability of flowing water, each interaction releases a surge of movement and sound, much like water breaking free from a dam.

First imagined during the Covid-19 pandemic, the piece illustrates the release of collective restraint and the surge of reconnection that followed isolation – an opening of floodgates. As Water Falls reunites the viewer with Mother Nature, offering ever-changing responses that feel uniquely personal. These interactions are accompanied by audio that explores the white noise created by waterfalls.

“As Water Falls marks the third time that we present our work at Lumiere. We hope that audiences leave with a lasting emotional imprint, having experienced a moment of wonder or playful curiosity through the universal element of water.” – Iregular
