A playful canopy of woven wheels

Inspired by bunting on the high street, FluoreCycle is a nostalgic and colourful love letter to cycling. This cheerful installation is constructed with UV reactive string intricately woven through 70 scrap bike wheels which were destined for the scrap yard. Artist and cyclist Hannah Ayre invites you to walk beneath the fluorescent patterns and appreciate just how joyful and sustainable cycling can be.

Each rim comes pre-punched with a ring of evenly spaced spoke holes – an accidental gift from the manufacturing process – which Ayre transforms into a framework for her detailed UV-thread patterns. Every wheel is stripped, cleaned, and re-threaded by hand – a process that turns a discarded object into a glowing ring of colour and light.

“I hope that the audience will enjoy the intricate, nostalgic patterns and the fun fluorescent colours. As a cyclist, I’m interested in promoting this fun, healthy and sustainable mode of transport.” – Hannah Ayre
