18. Elysium Garden

Jigantics (UK)

Sound by Elaine Buckholtz

Location: Palace Green

A supersized forest of giant illuminated flowers

Inspired by the mythical gardens of Elysium, a mythical place in the afterlife reserved for heroes, artist Jig Cochrane and the team at Jigantics have created a field of colourful giant blooms. Offering a window onto an otherworldly paradise, shining through the cold November night, this uplifting sight is a promise of the spring that will surely come.

Originally commissioned to celebrate the life of Bodyshop founder Anita Roddick, this joyous installation has been gradually built up over the last twenty years. The installation is ever-evolving and sustainable, with new varieties of flower being added each season.

Offering a kaleidoscopic profusion of colour, providing a space for reflection, peace and wonder, the towering blooms speak the unwritten language of empathy, taking viewers to a place of bliss between this world and another.
