See Durham Castle in a new light

Colour the Castle is a community art installation made specially for Lumiere and reimagines Mr.Beam’s previous successful project, Colour the City. The Dutch design studio and production house invites the public to share their creativity and decorate Durham Castle through their imagination. This magical projection art piece will transform the iconic building into a giant colouring book, with 150 individual drawings celebrating the inclusivity and diversity of the city’s residents and visitors.

About Mr.Beam

Mr.Beam is a design studio and production house, specialising in Immersive Experiences, Digital Art Installations, and AV Productions. In simple words, we tell stories in spaces, through art and technology.

“We are very excited to be part of Lumiere 2023 with our concept Colour the City, tailor-made for Durham Castle. Because the castle is such an iconic building and is seen from afar, the projection art piece literally shines a light on the creativity and talent of the city’s residents, from both early and experienced artists. This collaborative artwork is a great opportunity for the city to connect with its residents and visitors and will challenge young and old alike to get creative.” – Mr.Beam
