Durham Sixth Form Centre, New College Durham (UK)

Location: Prince Bishops High Street, Durham

A hundred exuberant hanging installations brighten up a pedestrian walkway.

Sustainability is an important tenet of Lumiere. Young people from Durham Sixth Form Centre and New College Durham have used recycled materials and common landfill objects to make this piece. Part of Lumiere’s community programme, the artwork was realised through a series of participatory workshops which included sessions on producing live events. Durham Sixth Form Centre have used recycled materials and common landfill objects to design Flowers and Chandeliers inspired by this year’s programme as well as using plastic bottles to grow a garden of flowers that bring light to the Durham skies.

This project has been delivered in collaboration with Durham County Council Community Arts team.
