Sound and Composition – Jack McNeill

Location: Locomotion the National Railway Museum

From circus trains to mail trains and everything in-between, take a trip along the railway tracks of time

This whimsical installation is a railway signal box window onto the last 200 years. Viewers are invited to walk through the sounds, sights, memories and dreams of those who lived alongside, worked and travelled the rail lines.

Created by artist Hannah Fox with Durham Academy students, as part of the S&DR Bicentenary at Shildon Locomotion Museum, this immersive and atmospheric work celebrates railway engineering through light, shadow and sound. Using original objects from the heritage collection at the museum, it is an enchanting celebration of the life and times of the railway through the ages, set in the museum alongside the huge engines and carriages on display.
